EV sales are set to hit an all-time high in 2022. More than 50% of the worldwide EV market is set to hit 2030’s milestones successfully. The International Energy Agency says EV sales hit 6.6 million in 2021 and in Q1 of 2022, EV sales hit 2 million. That is a 75% increase compared to Q1 2021. High fives all around for this news. Oh, and congrats to Aaron Judge. Can you hit 62?
In other EV News
The 2022 Mondial de l’Auto in Paris, France will display the all-electric Fisker Ocean. Production for the Fisker Ocean will take place at Magna’s carbon-neutral manufacturing facility in Austria and will begin in November 2022. Deliveries in France will begin in April 2023.
Hertz and BP will build a network of electric vehicle chargers across the U.S. The chargers can charge Hertz’s fleet of EVs and select chargers will be available for taxi and ride-hailing drivers as well as the general public.
Solar trees just might be the answer to the charging station availability question. SolarBotanic Trees, a UK startup, has released a concept using 3D leaf-shaped cells to collect and store energy. Right now, the output is small at only 5-kW, but there is a rapid-charging version in the works.
Beijing has extended tax breaks for EVs to help maintain growth for EVs in China.
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) is debating whether to expand its battery swapping to international markets.
The Biden Administration approved Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Plans for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. All states have access to FY22 and FY23 NEVI formula funding, totaling over $1.5 billion to fund EV chargers covering 75,000 miles of highway.
Faraday Future FF 91 has officially been rated with an EPA range of 381 miles, more than its direct competitor the Model X.

Volkswagen has unveiled a self-driving “travel pod” to replace short flights, the Gen.Travel. The pod would fit 4 people and can be customized between a workspace or for sleep.
In other AV News
42dot unveiled a driverless shuttle on Monday. Built for driverless public transport, the shuttle has 12 high-resolution cameras and six radars. It can also seat up to 7 passengers.
Rheinmetall, a German defense company, developed an AV combat vehicle, the ACW Weisel.
Shipping ports in China are using Arbe Robotics’ autonomous technology in trucks.
Can you make a self-driving car in one week? Argonne’s new autonomous vehicle camp challenges high school students to build and program AVs in one week.
SAIC and Pony.ai will co-develop level 4 autonomous robotaxis with foldable steering wheels.
Baidu Apollo began testing fully autonomous vehicles in Shanghai’s Driverless Demo Zone on Tuesday.
