Top EV News Stories Powered by EV.Careers

  1. Global electric vehicle sales hit a record 17.1 million units in 2024, representing 25% growth over 2023, with China leading the expansion at 11 million units (40% growth) while Europe declined by 3%. Regional performance varied significantly due to government policies, with the US and Canada growing 9%.

  2. Peachtree Corners, Georgia, is now home to its first commercial driver-out autonomous transportation service, launched by May Mobility in partnership with Curiosity Lab, T-Mobile, and the city, marking the company’s third driverless deployment in the U.S.

  3. Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $60 million loan from NY Green Bank to Revel, enabling the company to more than triple its public fast-charging network in New York City by constructing 267 new charging stalls across nine sites, including major installations in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.

  4. Israeli automotive startup Carrar plans to raise $18 million to establish its first production line near Sderot for EV battery packs featuring advanced cooling systems, aiming to double its workforce over the next two years.

  5. A registration statement has been filed with the SEC for an initial public offering of Envoy Technologies, a subsidiary of Blink Charging, which plans to list its common stock on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol "EVOY."

  6. A one-time $1,000 tax on new EV purchases has been proposed by Senate Republicans to offset federal road repair costs, arguing that EVs do not contribute to fuel taxes and cause more road wear due to their weight.

  7. The Denver Police Department is aiming to assess the feasibility of replacing more gas-powered cruisers by seeking $280,000 from the Denver Climate Protection Fund to expand its EV fleet with a Chevrolet Blazer PPV and a Chevrolet Silverado EV.

  8. According to McKinsey's late-2024 survey, extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) appeal to 13-18% of car buyers across Germany, UK, and US markets, with two-thirds of these potential buyers currently planning to purchase ICE or hybrid vehicles. EREVs could be cost-competitive with both ICE and BEV vehicles, potentially costing 30-40% less to produce than BEV powertrains, though manufacturers would need to sell at least one million units to justify the estimated $1 billion platform development cost.

  9. Used electric car sales in the UK hit a record 2.5% market share in 2024, with 188,000 vehicles changing hands compared to 1.7% market share in 2023. The Ford Fiesta led overall used car sales with 306,000 transactions.
