The U.S. Senate plans to expand EV tax credits, resulting in a non-capped $7,500 credit for new vehicles and a $4,000 credit for used vehicles. Great news, right? Well, not completely. There will be caveats. This credit would only be available on cars that are $55,000 or less and trucks that are $80,000 or less.

That’s not all. It’s tied to income as well. If you make over $150,000 as an individual or $300,000 combined, you would not be eligible for this credit. It would be available as an immediate point-of-sale credit though instead of a credit during tax season, so that’s another positive. Some manufacturers are pushing back, such as Rivian. We’ll see where this ends up.

In other EV News

  • An electric Corvette sedan? The rumors are flying with this one.

  • Ford’s EV sales have jumped 36.6% from August 2021. Industry sales, on average, have decreased by 10.5%. Ford also sold over 60,000 vehicles in July, the first time that has happened this year.

  • Gas credit cards are super popular, especially with these gas prices. Now, many credit cards are expanding their gas category to offer EV charging incentives. Hopefully, this will further encourage widespread EV adoption.

  • Xcel Energy’s $300 million initiative will expand EV presence by adding 730 high-speed chargers throughout the state of Minnesota.

  • The City of Cleveland’s Department of Utilities will install EV charging stations to aid in the transition to an EV-only fleet of vehicles.

  • Stellantis overtook Tesla in European EV sales. In the first half of 2022, Stellantis sold 105,413 vehicles, while Tesla sold 78,277. Volkswagen outsold everyone with 116,307 vehicles sold.

Events

Friday, August 12, 2022 • “State of Charge ’22”—an educational conference for performance EV conversions—will be held at Origin Hotel Red Rocks, in Golden, CO. The full day’s agenda will include “behind the build” sessions covering the myriad of ways to convert a classic vehicle to electric — whether via salvaged motors and batteries from wrecked EVs to highly-engineered aftermarket “crate” solutions (and options in-between). In addition to all of the informative content the cars will be there, too, for a firsthand look: including 4x4s, muscle cars, and maybe a couple of things you likely haven’t seen in a while. [Advance registration required]Saturday, August 13, 2022 • “La Vida Volta!”—a free, family-friendly EV Expo—will be hosted at iconic Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre, in Morrison, CO. Come see the converted classic vehicles from the previous day’s conference—including “Best of Show” winner from the 2022 Holley High Voltage event in Sonoma, CA—as well as some of the “lesser seen” OEM offerings, such as Rivian R1T, Ford Lightning, Tesla Plaid, and other interesting vehicles powered by electrons. Additionally, there will be informational booths onsite from Xcel Energy, Drive Electric Colorado, CDOT “Innovative Mobility”, and Denver’s Climate Action office. 10:00am-3:00pm (Lower North lot on the way to top of the amphitheater.)Details for both days and registration for “State of Charge ’22” are available online.

Drift Mode

Kia EV6 GT (2023) | 585 HP All-Electric Crossover | CRAZY DRIFT & LAUNCH CONTROL

With a quicker top speed than a Porsche Taycan 4S and the option for drift mode, how could we not choose the 2022 Kia EV6 GT this week? This is Kia’s fastest and most powerful model to date. The GT features 21” alloy wheels, allowing for bigger brakes, revised front and rear bumpers, and a tailgate spoiler. The inside has semi-bucket seats and a “GT” mode switch on the steering wheel. I can picture myself now, hitting up the semi-annual Nordstrom sale at the mall and then drifting through the parking lot in excitement before heading home!

  • 77.4-kWh battery

  • 800-volt system

  • 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds

  • 577-horsepower dual motor

  • 161 mph top speed

  • 545 lb.-ft of torque

  • Price TBD

Autonomous vehicles are America’s future in its delivery future for long and middle-mile deliveries. Amongst quick delivery times, AVs should be seriously considered as they will:

  • Allow the opportunity to scale supply operations, while facing driver shortages and rising labor costs.

  • solve the urban-middle mile use cases as the supply chain becomes increasingly complex

  • meet consumer expectations for delivery speed and predictability

  • improve transparency and traceability across the supply chain

  • increase safety, leading to fewer delivery disruptionsIn other AV News
