EV Headlines
What if the cost of electricity up to 2,000 miles was free? Sounds like a good deal. In Jacksonville, the electricity company (JEA) is doing this to promote off-peak charging times. As long as the JEA customer charges during off-peak times, JEA will pay the customer $84 per year to take advantage of this offer. It requires no special equipment and all customers have to do is charge between 10pm and 7am Monday-Friday or anytime on weekends.
Ameren Illinois is an electricity provider in Illinois. Like JEA, they are also providing incentives for off-peak charging. Some of the incentives include:
Special rates for at-home charging during off-peak hours.
Special rates for multi-family property owners for installing charging facilities.
Additional incentives for property owners installing charging facilities for low-income areas.
Special rates for electric school bus operators.
Incentives for property owners to install fast-charging stations along transportation corridors.
As we continue to push through the hot Summer months, we may hear about grid overload. We like to hear that electricity companies are not sitting idly and instead providing solutions in the form of incentivizing EV charging during non-high demand times.
