EV of the Week
Hummer
I took my father, FIL, and son to a car show this past weekend and as you pulled up there was a Hummer EV front and center. The Hummer is much bigger than I expected and looks like a proper truck. I can see myself carving up the mountains with the Hummer EV and that’s why we have the Hummer EV as the EV of the Week. The only thing I’m not a fan of was the price tag. This one was listed for $250k. Yikes.

In our newsletter last week, we had news that a Waymo self-driving vehicle was attacked in San Francisco. Pedestrians attacked another Waymo vehicle, a Jaguar I-Pace EV, with a safety driver inside. The driver was injured but wasn’t “seriously harmed.” Come on people. Chill out. In other AV News Hyundai Motor Group in South Korea will launch its most advanced Level 3 Autonomous cars in 2023. The company will start with the Genesis G90 sedan and Kia EV9. Sony is exploring the possibility of self-driving sensors that require 70% less power than current sensors in the AV industry. Amazon’s Zoox wants to test its developed robotaxi in California. The robotaxi does not have pedals or a steering wheel. Chinese automaker BAIC’s luxury EV brand, Arcfox, began delivering the HI (Huawei Inside) version of its Alpha S sports utility vehicles. The car has self-driving software and a hardware suite. In Estonia’s capital, pedestrians may see Tallinn’s newly launched 8-seater, free, autonomous bus testing its capabilities on public roads. The bus will follow a 1.8km pre-mapped route. Tier IV has received a $183 million grant from the “Green Innovation Fund Project” to develop autonomous driving software platforms. Through fundraising, Tier IV will launch a $300 million green autonomous driving project.

In addition to all of the informative content the cars will be there, too, for a firsthand look: including 4x4s, muscle cars, and maybe a couple of things you likely haven’t seen in a while. [Advance registration required]Saturday, August 13, 2022 • “La Vida Volta!”—a free, family-friendly EV Expo—will be hosted at iconic Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre, in Morrison, CO. Additionally, there will be informational booths onsite from Xcel Energy, Drive Electric Colorado, CDOT “Innovative Mobility”, and Denver’s Climate Action office. 10:00am-3:00pm (Lower North lot on the way to top of the amphitheater.)Details for both days and registration for “State of Charge ’22” are available online.
