It's been a great week, especially for Rivian with the first production R1T rolling off the line. We're excited to see these and the R1S on the road. Solid Power
Improving and utilizing battery tech has become extremely important in the EV industry. Auto manufactures such as Toyota have taken their first steps into advancing their battery technology. Toyota has committed $13.6 billion in the next decade to battery technology and has begun testing solid-state batteries in vehicles on the road. In other EV News
Democrats have proposed an updated EV incentive program, which will remove the limit on the number of vehicles sold and the incentives would come in the form of point-of-sale instead of a tax credit. The bill also introduces a higher payout up to $12,500, but only for cars made in the U.S. and using union employees. Toyota, Honda, and Tesla are not big on this stipulation. The bill will be voted on by the House Ways and Means Committee next Tuesday.
The Chinese government is encouraging consolidation amongst Chinese electric vehicle companies due to the belief that China has “too many” EV makers.
The EV market in the U.S. has grown from a few thousand vehicles in 2010 to more than 315,000 vehicles sold annually from 2018 to 2020. The key drivers appear to be more EV options, more charging stations, and better incentives.
Magna, the world’s third-largest auto supplier by sales, predicts a massive sales boost for electric cars by 2025.
Sion Power, a high-energy, lithium-metal rechargeable battery maker, is introducing a Liceron rechargeable battery for EVs. The battery has over 400 Wh/kg and 810 Wh/L in a large-format pouch cell.
The Maharashtra government’s EV policy 2021 has announced increased subsidies to bring EV prices down to their lowest among all states. The government put the responsibility of claiming the demand-side subsidy on vehicle manufacturers to make claiming easier for buyers.
Tradion LLC, a West Michigan startup, wants to integrate recycled batteries with home electric charging stations to improve at-home charging. Tradion wants the technology to draw power from the grid during off-peak hours when rates are lower. During peak hours, the EV can draw power from a storage system if it needs to charge.
LiCycle Holdings Corporation, a Canadian company, has announced plans for a lithium-ion battery recycling facility in Alabama.

Israel Aerospace Industries unveiled the Rex MK II, an AV vehicle that can either operate by itself or be controlled remotely by one operator. The vehicle will be able to transport supplies to troops, assist in battle, and carry injured soldiers to safety.In other AV News
The Whitby AV Electric Project is a 4 mile AV route in Whitley, Ontario. This will be the longest AV shuttle route in North America. The project has entered testing phases and will begin servicing rides in late 2021.
Nuro, a company that produces delivery driverless vehicles, is spending $40 million to build a manufacturing facility and test track outside of Las Vegas.
Aurora, a self-driving truck startup, has unveiled the Aurora-powered Volvo VNL, Volvo’s first commercial autonomous truck for the U.S.
General Motors has invested in Oculii, a U.S. startup for software in radar sensors used in self-driving cars. With this partnership, General Motors can use Oculii’s software to boost resolution in radars and improve its partially and fully self-driving vehicles.
Honda and General Motors’ Cruise begin autonomous vehicle testing in Japan. The vehicles will be tested in Utsunomiya City and Haga Town in Japan’s Tochigi Prefecture.
